Tim Rastall

Chief Technical Officer (CTO)

As the CTO of Enspec, Tim oversees and manages the technical delivery of the consultancy, manufacturing and site services. His role involves reviewing and approving technical designs, supporting the studies team with technical challenges and offering remote/site support to site teams in relation to fault finding and commissioning activities.

He’s also the first point of contact for large and complex projects with renewable energy developers and creates the project opportunities through meetings, presentations, site visits and general technical sales support.

Tim’s main area of expertise is Electrical Engineering with a niche focus on transient analysis, transient mitigation through the application and commissioning of Point-on-Wave switching systems and the design/ delivery of passive harmonic filtration for MV harmonic compliance in renewable energy developments. He’s also actively involved in System Study projects for large scale renewable energy developments, tackling and solving niche power quality issues in electricity generation and consumption industries.

Tim believes in making a real difference and delivering impact through the global drive to net zero and renewable energy generation. Showcased when Enspec was contracted by SPEN to design, manufacture, test and supply an innovative DC fault detection system for their role out of direct to customer DC networks. This involved developing detection, control and communication circuitry from scratch and first principles to address the engineering challenge. It then involved the development and testing of the system and culminated in producing a system that can be installed on the first DC substation site.

Tim can be seen conducting regular thought-leadership presentations and technical talks at industry conferences or via webinars and holds a MEng in Electrical Engineering with Advanced qualifications in Vizimax SynchroTeq applications and commissioning as well as Advanced PSCAD training.
