Commissioning SynchroTeq for Inrush

Current Mitigation at a London Data Centre

Enspec power

The Problem in Detail

A critical data centre in London needed to manage inrush currents during the energisation of its 11kV transformers. Uncontrolled surges threatened to cause trip events and unplanned downtime, putting the centre's operations at risk

Finding the Solution

Enspec took on the challenge of commissioning six SynchroTeqs to mitigate these inrush currents. Despite encountering a damaged transformer, the team successfully implemented five SynchroTeqs to control the energisation process and reduce inrush current peaks.

Making it All Work

The team worked over two days, measuring significant improvements. Without the SynchroTeqs, inrush current peaked at 567 Amps, but with them in place, it was reduced by 85% to just 85.5 Amps. This reduction demonstrated the effectiveness of the SynchroTeqs in mitigating potential issues.

What That Means for the Project Now

The successful deployment of SynchroTeqs has ensured the data centre's operational stability and minimised the risk of unexpected downtime. This solution highlights the importance of advanced electrical controls in safeguarding critical infrastructure
